Some arcade games are legendary, and then some are so rare and unique that they feel almost mythical. One such game is Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, a 1990 arcade beat ‘em up from Sega that captures the magic, music, and moves of the King of Pop himself.
This game has been a staple on our arcade floor for a while, but like any classic, time took its toll—specifically on its original CRT monitor. The picture had been fading, and the game just wasn’t shining the way it should. But no more! Summer and I have given it a brand-new bright CRT display, making it look just as smooth as MJ’s legendary dance moves.

What Is Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker (Arcade Version)?
Unlike the Genesis version, which is a side-scrolling platformer, the arcade version of Moonwalker is a three-player isometric beat ‘em up—meaning you and up to two friends can team up to save kidnapped children from the evil Mr. Big, all while unleashing Michael’s signature moves.
🎤 Play as MJ in three different colors—red, white, or black suits.
💫 Defeat enemies with dance-inspired attacks—kick, spin, and moonwalk your way through waves of bad guys!
🕺 Dance Magic Special Move—activate it, and all enemies on screen are forced to dance… before they collapse from exhaustion!
🦍 Bubbles the Chimp—MJ’s real-life pet appears in-game and, when collected, transforms you into a robotic Michael Jackson that can shoot lasers!
🎶 Iconic MJ music—levels are backed by 16-bit versions of Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Bad, and more!
Why Is It So Rare?
While Moonwalker was a big deal in 1990, the arcade version was never mass-produced in huge numbers like other Sega games of the time. Most arcades didn’t have it, and even fewer still do today. Finding one in working condition is tough, making it a must-play for any MJ fan or arcade collector.
